2026 AI Visibility Benchmark Report for B2B Companies
Published: April 2026 | By: RocketSales Research | Data: 500+ website audits across 6 industries
This is the first comprehensive benchmark of AI visibility performance across B2B industries. RocketSales analyzed data from over 500 website audits conducted between January 2025 and March 2026 using our 42-point AI visibility scoring methodology. The report covers SEO, Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and AI Visibility scores across financial services, healthcare, legal, technology, home services, and professional services.
Key findings
The average B2B website scores just 34 out of 100 on AI visibility — meaning most businesses are invisible to AI-powered search platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Gemini. Only 8% of B2B websites score above 70, and fewer than 2% score above 85.
Average scores by category (across all industries)
SEO: 52/100 — Most B2B sites have basic SEO in place but lack structured data, proper heading hierarchy, and comprehensive internal linking. 67% of audited sites were missing H1 tags on at least one key page. Only 23% had Service or HowTo schema implemented.
AEO: 28/100 — This is the weakest category across all industries. 81% of B2B websites have zero FAQ sections with FAQPage schema. Only 12% structure content in direct question-answer format. 94% lack HowTo schema entirely. The median number of featured snippets held by audited B2B sites is zero.
GEO: 31/100 — Most B2B content is written for human readers but not structured for AI extraction. 76% of sites lack citable statistics in their body content. Only 9% include authoritative source citations that AI can reference. 88% have no comparison or versus content that AI platforms use for recommendation queries.
AI Visibility: 38/100 — While many B2B companies have strong brand identity, they lack the proof signals AI systems need. 71% have zero published case studies. 83% have no review or rating schema. Only 15% have content structured specifically for AI citation patterns.
Scores by industry
Technology companies lead with an average composite score of 41/100 — benefiting from stronger technical SEO foundations and more content. However, their GEO scores average just 33/100 because content is typically product-focused rather than citation-optimized.
Financial services firms average 38/100 composite. They score highest on brand identity (48/100) but lowest on AEO (22/100) due to regulatory caution around making definitive statements that would work well in featured snippets.
Healthcare companies average 36/100. Strong content depth but weak structured data — only 8% have proper medical service schema. HIPAA concerns lead many to avoid the specific, quotable claims that AI systems prefer.
Legal firms average 35/100. High content volume but low citation optimization. Most legal content reads as marketing copy rather than authoritative reference material AI platforms can extract.
Professional services firms average 33/100. Often rely on referrals and have underinvested in digital presence. Only 11% have published case studies, and less than 5% have any AI-specific content optimization.
Home services companies average 29/100 — the lowest of all industries. While local SEO adoption is growing, GEO and AI visibility optimization is nearly nonexistent. Only 3% have any structured data beyond basic LocalBusiness schema.
What top performers do differently
The top 8% of B2B websites (scoring above 70/100) share five common characteristics:
1. Front-loaded definitions: 92% of top performers define their core services in the first sentence of each service page, using the exact language buyers use when querying AI assistants.
2. Citable statistics: Top performers include an average of 14 specific, source-attributed statistics per page — 7x more than the median B2B site.
3. FAQ coverage: 89% have FAQ sections with FAQPage schema on every service and industry page, averaging 5-8 questions per page.
4. Case studies with metrics: 94% have published at least 3 case studies with specific, quantifiable results that AI can cite as evidence.
5. Comparison content: 78% have at least one comparison or versus page (e.g., 'GEO vs SEO') that helps AI platforms position them in competitive recommendation queries.
Methodology
RocketSales analyzed 512 B2B websites across 6 industries using our proprietary 42-point audit methodology. Each site was scored 0-100 across four categories: SEO (6 checks, 100 points), AEO (4 checks, 100 points), GEO (4 checks, 100 points), and AI Visibility (4 checks, 100 points). Audits were conducted between January 2025 and March 2026. Industry classification was based on primary business activity. Only B2B-focused websites were included — B2C and mixed-model businesses were excluded.
